A 26-year-old man is facing numerous firearms-related charges following an incident just outside of Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Monday.
The RCMP say they were called to the area of Gull Island, a cabin area just outside Happy Valley-Goose Bay, just before 2:00 p.m. after they received a report alleging that Jens Piercy was using a firearm in a dangerous manner outside of a cabin.
When police arrived, they say that Piercy had been restrained by a member of the public. He was arrested and a firearm in his possession was seized.
A later search of the cabin revealed that it had been damaged by gunshots. As well, a second firearm and several spent ammunition shells and live rounds were located outside the property.
Piercy is facing a raft of charges. Those are two counts of pointing a firearm, two counts of assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon while prohibited, and possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.
The accused appeared in court today on the charges. The investigation is continuing with more charges expected.
