The second trial for a man charged with second-degree murder focused on the probabilities of matching DNA yesterday.
And by accounts—in the quintillions for one sample—it appears Craig Pope was at the scene when Jonathan Collins was fatally stabbed. But whether Pope did it or planned to do it, remains for the jury to decide.
It happened near the intersection of Mundy Pond Road and Alderberry Lane in September of 2017.
The 38-year-old was convicted of the crime in 2019, but that was overturned on appeal and a new trial ordered.
A full month has been set aside for the trial, which is a week old, but lawyers say they’re ahead of schedule.
Much of yesterday dealt with statistical probabilities and an expert testified via video from the mainland.
Next to testify is the chief medical examiner with details surrounding the cause of death.
