A family physician in Lewisporte, who nearly left the community altogether due to alleged racism and bullying against his daughter, has decided to stay.
The story of Dr. Gerges Ambarak grabbed the attention of the entire province earlier this month after he publicly called out instances of alleged racism, including physical and verbal abuse, against his daughter.
The RCMP laid a charge against a young person in connection with an alleged assault against his daughter.
Since Dr. Ambarak, who shares a family practice in Lewisporte with his wife, went public, his family has received an outpouring of support from the community.
In a post to Facebook, Ambarak says he “can’t deny all of the love, support, and appreciation” that his family has received.
He reveals that he has decided to stay and practice in the town, but it comes with one caveat;
He will have zero-tolerance for racism and abuse, noting that his family has “already tolerated that for more than two years.”
