Talk of a job action is growing louder and louder within the ranks of the only health union not to have a new contract with the employer.
The Association of Allied Health Professionals represents about a thousand psychologists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, audiologists, mental health counsellors and social workers among others.
AAHP walked away from the bargaining table some time ago and the conciliation process has not yet started.
The association says its members are often paid less than their health care peers, and they’re looking for “equal pay for work of equal value.”
AAHP says they know of seniors who are paying $80 to $90 per hour for private physiotherapy services because of long wait lists in the public system.
Unless government brings more to the table, they don’t see a settlement in the dispute anytime soon.
