The aunt of Cortney Lake is expressing the importance of keeping her niece’s name and face out in the public realm.
Glenda Power spoke at a recent event marking the start of the Purple Ribbon Campaign, which raises awareness of gender-based violence.
Lake disappeared in June 2017 and shortly thereafter the RNC announced that the case was being investigated as a homicide.
Her ex-boyfriend and sole suspect in the case died by suicide the following November.
The RNC believe there are people who may have information about what happened to Lake.
Last year Power presented at the Atlantic Women in Law Enforcement conference, and recalls her conversation with an RCMP Sergeant.
The Sergeant told her about a man who came into his detachment and confessed to the murder of a woman years earlier. When asked why he confessed now, the officer was told that he couldn’t bear seeing the woman’s picture any more. The sergeant told Power not to give up, and to keep sharing Cortney’s story.
