The RNC is advising the public of an ongoing incident in the area of Brazil Street in Downtown St. John’s.
Police are asking local residents to remain in their homes and local traffic to avoid the area and take an alternate route.
The area south of Lemarchant Road between Casey Street and Barters Hill to New Gower Street will see a heavy polices presence until the matter is resolved.

UPDATE:
The RNC have advised that the incident is in regards to a report of a potential weapons offence.
Officers have contained a property and are requesting the community to continue to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
VOCM News has reached out to representatives for the St. John’s Downtown Christmas Parade. As of now the ongoing incident on Brazil Street has no impact on the Parade, which will proceed as scheduled. Organizers are in direct contact with the RNC and are monitoring the situation

Officers remain at scene on Brazil St & have set up barricades in preparation for Christmas parade foot traffic to indicate NO ACCESS to the area bordered by Lemarchant Rd, Casey St & Barter’s Hill.
As the investigation continues with containment at a property on Brazil St, residents of Brazil St are asked to remain inside their homes to promote safety and to avoid impeding the investigative process.
