The NDP have officially named Kim Churchill as their Candidate for the upcoming by-election in Conception Bay East-Bell Island.

Churchill is a deaf rights activist, who, along with her husband Todd, took the English School District to court over a lack of access to sign language interpretation for their son Carter.

The PCs put out their call for nominations last week, and are currently in the vetting process for those who have come forward.

While the Liberals have not made a call for nominations it is heavily rumored that former broadcaster Fred Hutton will be seeking the nod.

Current PC MHA David Brazil will be stepping away from the role on December 29.
