The PC Party is currently vetting candidates seeking the Tory nomination in Conception Bay East-Bell Island.
Long-time MHA David Brazil announced he is stepping down effective December 30.
The PCs put out a call for nominations last week, a process that closed at noon on Friday.
At least one candidate had announced their intention to seek the nomination prior to the deadline—Tina Neary a town councillor in Portugal Cove-St. Phillips.
The party will provide an update once the work of the candidate vetting committee is done.
Deaf rights advocate Kim Churchill has announced her intention to seek the NDP’s nomination in the district, while the Premier’s advisor, former broadcast journalist Fred Hutton is said to be considering a possible run for the Liberal nomination.
