Snowfall warnings have ended over the eastern portion of the island after the season’s first real dumping of snow.
Snow began earlier today in Gander and on the Burin Peninsula and 10-15 cm was forecasted for the metro region. The Burin Peninsula saw over 15 cms and travel advisories are in place for the Clarenville area due to poor visibility. The metro has yet to see any significant snowfall, and warnings have ended.
Environment Canada meteorologist Ali Jalali says the centre of the system ended up tracking northward upon its approach to the island.
He says the Avalon will still see some snow, but nothing close to what was originally forecasted.
The St. John’s area could see around 2 – 4 cm, except 10 over higher terrain.
The system will fully move off later this evening.
