A group of students at Memorial University’s Faculty of Education say it’s time for the university to update some of the furnishings in a number of classrooms.
The MUN Size Matters campaign was started following a complaint that the desks in some classrooms were too small to accommodate adult learners who have different body types and accessibility needs.
Rich Hitchens, one of the students behind the movement, says some of the desks are dated as far back as the 1960s. He says the university has not responded to their complaints so far.
Hitchens says nobody would look at those desks and agree they are suited for adults. He’s shocked that the higher-ups at MUN are ignoring the issue.
In a statement to VOCM News, Memorial University says they are accommodating the handful of students who have asked for seating accommodations. When funding allows, MUN says they do upgrade their seating options to be more inclusive.
