A drive-in menorah lighting is taking place in St. John’s this weekend to mark Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights.
A giant menorah will be set up in the Viking Building parking lot and guests, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, are invited to attend.
The event, which has been taking place in St. John’s for the last six years, has been held as a drive-in event since the COVID pandemic.
Rabbi Chanan Chernitsky of the Jewish Chabad of St. John’s says Hanukkah offers hope in what has been a very difficult period.
He says turn off the lights, close the drapes and light a single candle. “That one candle that you light, lights up that whole room. Let’s focus on the light, that’s the way we fight darkness.”
The drive-in event takes place this Sunday at 4 p.m.
