Government’s decision to contract air ambulance services from the private sector is a cause for concern for the MHA representing an area which frequently avails of the service.
Labrador West MHA Jordan Brown is worried that reliance on the private sector will not only be a disadvantage to residents, but could also end up costing taxpayers more.
Brown says the province has partially used private air ambulance services in the past that ended up costing more to operate than government-owned aircraft.
He calls it “ludicrous” that government is moving to a system that has proven to be more expensive. Brown says it’s almost like they’re doing a trade off as the plan is to move all road ambulance services into the public sector.
