Police have given the all-clear at St. John’s International Airport following a bomb threat this morning.
The RNC advised just before 11 a.m. that there was no longer any risk to the public at the biggest airport in the province.
The threat was received in a phone call to the RNC shortly before 8 a.m. this morning.
RNC spokesman and Constable James Cadigan declined to provide specifics of the threat, noting the investigation is continuing into who was responsible for calling it in.
“So at this stage we have determined that there is no public safety risk on site there but we are going to be remaining in the area, continuing to investigate the delivery of that initial threat, and to determine the source of that information,” he said.
The incident led airport officials to shut down all operations and close routes to and from the site as the police bomb squad, along with the K9 unit, scoured the main terminal and surrounding area for explosives.
Operations at the airport resumed as of 11:30 a.m.
