Loblaws has confirmed that it is cutting the discounted amount on products nearing expiry from 50 to 30 per cent.
The company responded to questions raised by Sylvain Charlebois of Dalhousie University’s Agri-food and Analytics Lab.
The co-host of The Food Professor Podcast took to X (formerly Twitter) asking whether rumours he’d heard were correct, and demanded to know the rationale.
Loblaws’ Catherine Thomas responded indicating that instead of offering a range of discounts of between 30 and 50 per cent on ‘serve tonight’ products, they were “moving toward a more predictable and consistent offering.”
Charlebois shared the e-mailed response on his X feed.
