The provincial government has received two formal applications for ride-sharing services in the province, both of which are local.
The Department of Digital Government and Service NL was set to formally announce the province’s first ridesharing licence yesterday, but the media event at Confederation Building was unexpectedly cancelled.
Redsea Riding has received the first licence, while just one other application has been received by government to-date, from a company called Kabby.
Kabby is now working through the process to provide Motor Registration with the required documentation.
Officials say they have not yet received any applications from two of the best-known ridesharing services, Uber and Lyft.
