It didn’t take MHA Fred Hutton long to find his way into Cabinet.
He is now the Minister of Housing, which is now its own entity. It had been a part of the Children, Seniors and Social Development portfolio.
Hutton was sworn in at Government House this morning, the only change in Cabinet.
The newly-elected MHA for Conception Bay East-Bell Island says housing has gotten a lot of attention under the Furey Government, and will now get even more as its own department.
He’s looking forward to meeting the stakeholders involved and will do his best to improve affordable housing options for people in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Paul Pike had been the minister responsible for housing but Premier Furey says his performance had nothing to do with the decision to take housing out of his ministry. Pike gaffed last fall on the number of social housing units being made available.
