NDP Leader Jim Dinn is hoping the provincial government follows Ottawa’s lead by introducing anti-scab legislation.
Parliament recently showed unanimous support for federal legislation to move past second reading for the bill that would ban the use of replacement workers during a strike in federally-regulated industries.
Dinn says Newfoundland and Labrador can be a “leader in the country” by introducing similar legislation at the provincial level.
He cites comments from Labour Minister Bernard Davis in 2018 that consultations would have to be carried out.
However, after 12 years Dinn notes that consultation has still not happened.
