Search and rescue efforts continue in Baltimore for six highways workers unaccounted for after a shocking bridge collapse in the Maryland capital early this morning.
The cargo ship Dali provided a warning to officials after the massive vessel lost power, slamming into one of the supports to the Francis Scott Key Bridge, a 1.6 mile span over the Patapasco River around 6:00 a.m. local time.
The collision caused the bridge to collapse, sending the decks and supports tumbling into the water in the matter of seconds.
The US National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation, but Chair Jennifer Homendy cautioned reporters this afternoon that she has no information on possible fatalities.
She says information from the vessel’s voyage data recorder will be a critical piece of evidence in their investigation.
