One person is dead and the search continues for another following a single-vehicle crash on the southwest coast of the island.

It happened between Burnt Islands and Rose Blanche early Wednesday night.

Police say the vehicle went off the road and ended up in a pond just before 7 p.m.

One man was pulled from the water but was pronounced dead at the scene.

A search of the water was continuing for a second man who was also in the vehicle.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is also involved as the investigation continues.
