Tributes to the late Bob Cole were on full display during Saturday’s Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.
Cole, who was the voice behind a number of iconic hockey games in his decades-long career, passed away last week at the age of 90.
Wayne Gretzky, who was a friend of Cole’s and provided him with some of his most legendary calls, says his passion for the game is what made him stand out.
“Passion and love goes a long way,” Gretzky told Hockey Night in Canada host Ron MacLean. He says Cole loved attending the morning skates and getting prepared to call the game.
The funeral for Cole will take place this Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas Anglican Church in downtown St. John’s. It will also be livestreamed through Facebook.
