First Voice wants the province to implement a universal basic income to address what it calls the growing cost of living crisis.
The same policy brief was shared with the provincial government in March as part of the biannual minimum wage review process.
First Voice says the brief draws from Stats Can data that shows Indigenous people, particularly women and children, who are already facing higher rates of poverty, are more likely to be affected negatively by the rising cost of living.
First Voice argues that a guaranteed income can improved health, education, food security and employment outcomes.
