As Newfoundland and Labrador marks its 75th anniversary in Confederation with Canada, Premier Andrew Furey says the province is only beginning to tap into its full potential.
Furey addressed the Empire Club in Toronto yesterday—a gathering of some of the country’s most influential leaders.
The province’s hydro, wind and even offshore oil can all be leveraged to help with the transition away from carbon-based fuel, says Furey.
He also touted the province’s capacity for carbon-capture “with the potential to store well over a gigaton of CO₂ off our shores.”
Furey put some perspective behind the numbers. “Newfoundland and Labrador could store the entire carbon output of every province and territory of Canada combined, for decades.”
