The Government Service Centre in Conception Bay North, which includes Motor Vehicle Registration, is moving to Coley’s Point from Harbour Grace.
Residents of Carbonear and Harbour Grace have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the move.
Area MHA Pam Parsons says the move was not based on a government decision, but was the result of a public tendering process.
She says only two bids were received from private property owners, one from Carbonear, the other from Coley’s Point in Bay Roberts, and the Coley’s Point location was the winning bid.
The service centre also contains electrical inspection services, environmental protection services and private water sampling collection.
Government says the new location will provide the same in-person service that the Harbour Grace location offered.
The new facility opens on Monday.
