An organization that gives young people a crack at education outside the traditional environment has received money from the province.
An additional $300,000 was announced for the Murphy Centre at the facility in St. John’s this morning.
That brings its total yearly provincial grant to about $1.16 million.
Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell and area MHA John Abbott were on hand for the announcement this morning.
Murphy Centre director Tim Turner said the effects of the funding are two-fold.
“This investment not only provides much-needed financial resources for the Murphy Centre,” he said. “It also sends a profound message; it says that we believe that all people of the province deserve an opportunity to complete their education requirements no matter what their experience in the regular school system might have been.”
The Murphy Centre, which first opened 38 years ago in 1986, offers three options to complete a high school or equivalent diploma, plus numerous other career services.
