The town of Wabana recently made a local student’s dream come true.
Seventeen-year-old Marcus Gop, a student at St. Michael’s Regional High on Bell Island, has an intellectual disability.
He has long expressed an interest in, and admiration for the work the local town council does, and wants to work for the town council.
Yesterday, a garbage truck pulled up in front of the school to pick Marcus up to come work for the town for a day.
He spent the day shadowing foreman Rick and helping him with road work, bulk garbage pick up and even paid a visit to the water treatment plant.
All that hard work builds up an appetite and Marcus was treated to a free lunch at Dick’s with the local town manager.
Marcus has even been rewarded with a summer job working for the council for eight hours a week.
