A briefing on proposed amendments to the controversial Crown Lands Act was cancelled this week.
That’s because the minister responsible, Elvis Loveless, said he needs more time to get the legislation right.
PC Leader Tony Wakeham said that was understandable, saying PC MHAs were prepared to stay later to debate the issue, and challenged Loveless to do the same.
Loveless made no apologies for needing more time to “get it right,” but said staying later was out of his hands.
“To answer that, I’m not the Government House Leader,” said Loveless, referring to the person who must make the motion to extend a session of the House of Assembly.
That would be Minister Steve Crocker, who is in France for the repatriation of the remains of this province’s Unknown Soldier.
“But in terms of the legislation, I do need extra time, and I’m asking for that extra time to do due diligence around the Crown Lands piece because it should be about getting it right,” said Loveless.
He did not elaborate on which parts of the legislation are holding it up.
