Current FFAW President Greg Pretty says he will not be running for re-election, and is retiring.
The nomination period for the presidential election is currently underway. So far two names have come forward, Dwan Street and Abe Solberg.
A third candidate, Bill Broderick, had put his name forward, but dropped out earlier this week and threw his support behind Solberg in the process.
Pretty says his last day with the union will be November 19.
Pretty says he has been in the position for 16 months and he has “changed the tone” and put more emphasis on the fishery than some other people. He says there are many progressive issues moving forward, such as the loan board that was recently announced, and they will also be looking at the licensing system in the province.
Pretty isn’t casting his support behind any candidate at this time, noting that they still don’t know all the names that could be in the running.
