Police are investigating a frightening incident in Mount Pearl early this morning.

They say a woman was robbed while using an ATM on Commonwealth Avenue shortly after midnight.

The woman was also assaulted during the confrontation but police did not elaborate on the extent of her injuries, the amount of cash taken, or the bank in question.

The male suspect fled the scene before police could get there.

He’s described as about five feet, eight inches tall with a slender build and light brown hair, and was wearing light-coloured pants.

Police are appealing to the public for any video or other information that might help them solve the crime.
