Mining giant Rio Tinto / IOC is moving forward with it’s efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations in Labrador West.
The company installed a 40-megawatt steam boiler last year that will replace its previous heavy fuel oil boilers and marks the first phase of its steam plant electrification plan.
The company is also electrifying parts of its heavy fuel oil boiler use, and fine-tuning other equipment which has resulted in “substantial reductions in heavy fuel oil consumption” during pellet production.
Rio Tinto / IOC’s Sustainable Development Report is available online.
