A professor with MUN’s school of pharmacy says she is “totally on board” with the idea of a generational ban on the sale of cigarettes—but it should also apply to nicotine, not just tobacco products.
The provincial government is considering legislative changes that would ban anyone born after a certain date from purchasing tobacco products.
Dr. Leslie Phillips believes that ban needs to go a step further, and include nicotine products.
She says national surveys show that young people aren’t using tobacco products, they are using other “novel nicotine products like vaping.” She says a ban on tobacco alone wouldn’t have any substantial impact as a result.
