This marks the first week of no more home heating oil deliveries for St. Brendan’s.
In September, North Atlantic made the decision to cease service to several rural communities, including St. Brendan’s, which is accessible only by ferry.
Bill Broderick of the St. Brendan’s Community Council says many of the homes have filled up their tanks in the last week, but it’s only a matter of time before they run out.
He says it’s been hard to find a provider with such short notice, but he remains hopeful.
“We’re going to hope we find a solution. Nobody is going to be cold on St. Brendans this winter. We have been here for 175 years and we found a way to survive and we won’t be cold the winter,” he said.
