A Newfoundland and Labrador start-up company has developed a product that they say will “re-define ladder safety on a global scale.”
Jordan Spencer, the co-founder and CEO of LadderSpike, says they have spent the last four years developing the Ladder Evolution-Pro.
It’s an attachment that can fit onto any type of ladder and stabilize it on a variety of tricky surfaces.
Spencer says the idea has been in his head for many years, from holding the ladder for his grandfather to get on the roof of his house when he was young, to working in the trades himself.
The company spent this year commercializing the product, and plans to start shipping it out in early 2025.
Spencer says the attachment will help save lives when working in high places, and also improve efficiency.
He points to his work as a pipefitter as an example. He says with a stable ladder, checking a pipe could take five minutes, instead of waiting for another team to come in and set up scaffolding for him to do the job safely.
Spencer and his team have already been recognized for their work, after being recognized as the Canadian construction innovation of the year for 2024.
