One of the most startling stats to come out of the Seniors’ Advocate’s latest report is an increase in crime rates against seniors.
The report, which was released yesterday, indicates that the numbers have gone up from three violations per 1,000 seniors in 2019 to 4.4 per 1,000 seniors in 2023.
Susan Walsh calls that date “significant.”
She says there has been a 50 per cent increase in the number of seniors as victims, which is “alarming, but not surprising.” She says from the community visitation she has done, she has heard many concerns from seniors.
