The province’s mining industry is reacting with optimism to the MOU reached between he Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec governments on replacement of the 1969 Upper Churchill Contract.
That, in addition to the development of the Gull Island hydro project, will have what Mining Industry NL says will be “a positive impact on the industry” and a “catalyst for new and expanding developments in Labrador.”
The industry association says the mining industry is reliant on access to clean energy and an increase of 1,990 mW of power is “warmly welcomed” and crucial to developing the province’s mining potential.
