A 55-year-old man is dead as the result of a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Jeffrey’s yesterday.

RCMP were called around 6:45 yesterday morning after a pickup that was westbound on the Trans-Canada, collided with an SUV that was turning onto the highway from the road leading into Jeffrey’s.

The driver of the SUV, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The two people in the pickup were taken to hospital in Stephenville.

One person was treated and released while the other remains in hospital in serious condition.
