The Coast Guard is warning snowmobilers and others in the area of Happy Valley-Goose Bay that the icebreaker Kopit Hopson 1752 is in the area today, cutting routes for year-end tanker and ferry operations.
That means it will leave open tracks of water as it passes through Lake Melville and out to the coast.
The Coast Guard is advising those who venture out on the ice in areas where the icebreaker has passed through to keep a safe distance as cracks can extend for some distance from the vessel as it moves through the ice.
