Heavy weather has descended on parts of the province on perhaps the worst weekend of the year in the hustle and bustle of the final weekend before Christmas.
Storm warnings are out for parts of central Newfoundland, the west coast, the northern peninsula and southern Labrador, with varying amounts of snow and high winds making travel difficult. In the east and the south, the system dumps rain – up to 50mm in the south and 30mm in the Avalon.
Tractor trailers are being advised by highways not to attempt the Wreckhouse. Some of the runs on the interprovincial ferry system are sitting this one out, including the two boats serving Bell Island. Marine Atlantic crossings have also been disrupted.

There have been a few accidents on our highways. A car left the Veterans Memorial Highway near Spaniards Bay, and a vehicle travelling westbound on the Outer Ring between Torbay Road and Portugal Cove Road access points left the highway. That is causing delays on that section of the ORR and the on-ramps.
