The past couple of years have not been great for skiing on the west coast with a lack of snow and an abundance of melt, but one idea being tossed around is divesting Marble Mountain to a community-run with a guaranteed subsidy for a number of years.
Corner Brook Mayor Jim Parsons says skiing may not be the focal point as other activities, including off-season ventures such as bicycling and RV camping, may be among the nucleus of things to do.
The provincial government, which subsidizes Marble each year, would like to see a private operator become a partner but there has not been any takers.
“It’s a beautiful area and a key part of the regional tourism,” says the mayor.
