Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can expect to pay more at the grocery store in 2025.
That’s according to Dr. Sylvain Charlebois, lead researcher and director of the Agri-Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University.
Charlebois says the 2025 Canada Food Price Report shows that Canadians will be paying about three to five per cent more for their groceries, with people in this province on the higher end of that range.
He says while 2024 may not have felt like a good year, it was because the food inflation rate was around 2.7 per cent, which is where it should be. However, he predicts that 2025 will be above average when compared to the last 10 years due to meat and vegetable prices.
