The leader of the NDP, who is also a former president of the NL Teachers’ Association, says he “does not have a whole lot of faith in the Education Accord.”
The Accord, which was announced early in 2024, will look at developing a plan to guide the education system over the next number of years.
That report is due to the government by New Year’s Eve, with Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell noting that an interim report was received by the government the week before Christmas.
Dinn amounts the Accord to government kicking the can down the road, “so that they wouldn’t have to deal with it.”
Dinn notes that many reports have already been done about issues in the education system.
He says he has lots of faith in teachers but no confidence in the process. He says a teacher reached out to him and showed him the questions the Accord team were asking. It seemed to him like they were guiding teachers toward certain answers. Dinn believes the report will simply collect dust.
