The MP for Avalon and one of the first to express a desire for Justin Trudeau to resign thinks former finance minister Chrystia Freeland should be the party’s next leader.
Ken McDonald was in Ottawa yesterday for a caucus meeting where most of the discussion revolved around who will lead the party next after PM Justin Trudeau announced his resignation earlier this week.
McDonald, who will not be running in the next election, has expressed his dissatisfaction with Trudeau’s leadership numerous times in the past.
While no one has come forward to say they will be vying for the job, McDonald is throwing his support behind Freeland should she decide to run.
“She’s got the experience, she’s been deputy prime minister and held the portfolio of minister of finance,” said McDonald. “I think she’s grown into the position and has done a lot in the last number of years to show she has the capabilities to be a leader of the party.”
