The province’s new QMJHL team has a name that dives deep into the determination and resilience of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
The Regiment is a nod to the sacrifice and bravery of members of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.
The official logo was also released featuring a fierce and dynamic version of the iconic caribou.
Premier Andrew Furey says he’s pleased with the name.
“It’s a name that means a lot to every Newfoundlander and Labradorian and has for generations. So to see it on the ice, to see it representing the province around the country, it’s going to be something that we’re all going to be extremely proud of.”
QMJHL Commissioner Mario Checchni calls the name unique, and reflects the drive and determination of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
He says it also speaks to the values of a great hockey.
