The President of the Newfoundland Regiment, the QMJHL’s newest hockey team, is bullish about the team’s prospects and the impact it will have on generating local business.
The team got it’s official name this week, a nod to the sacrifices made and bravery shown by soldiers from Newfoundland and Labrador in the First and Second World Wars.
Glenn Stanford says he’s very encouraged by the excitement and buzz swirling about the return of major junior hockey to St. John’s.
“I’ve been around a lot of teams, and this one is almost IceCaps-like,” says Stanford. “They were tremendously successful for the six years that they were here and this has got the same kind of feeling.” Stanford says they’ve already sold more than 1,400 season tickets and “corporate partnerships are climbing off the wall here. There’s a tonne of excitement and we just have to keep it going.”
