A local family is inviting visitors to DF Barnes Arena in St. John’s today to Pause for the Cause and share a little mug-up supporting the Alzheimer’s Society.
Broadcaster Seth Hyde decided to give a bit back to the community and chose the Alzheimer’s Society because his grandfather was diagnosed with dementia in 2020, and his father Darin was recently diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s.
Hyde and his family will be on-hand at D.F. Barnes Arena – the home of the Avalon Celtics – today from 9:00 to 5:00 serving up sweet treats and hot drinks.
Hyde’s fundraising goal is $1000, but it’s not just about raising money, it’s also about raising awareness. They’ll be passing out information on Alzheimer’s disease to help others.
“We’re hoping to drive people into the building,” says Hyde. “It’s not only about raising money, it’s about education as well. We’re going to have pamphlets there. My aunt is a registered nurse, even if people want to ask her some questions about it.” He says the main goal is about education and he hopes that what they’ve learned about Alzheimer’s and dementia can be shared with others.
