Broadcaster Seth Hyde is calling a weekend family fundraiser in support of Alzheimer’s research and awareness a huge success.
Hyde and members of his family raised money for the cause by selling treats and hot drinks from the canteen at the D.F. Barnes Arena on Sunday.
Hyde’s grandfather Smith was diagnosed with dementia in 2020, and his father, Darin was recently diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s.
Hyde says they’re still getting e-transfers supporting the Alzheimer’s Society of NL, far exceeding their $1000 goal.
“There was people that we never expected to show up. Some of my teachers, as well, came. Some former teachers from Vanier (Elementary) and MacDonald Drive (Junior High)(also came),” he told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly.
“We blew $1,000 out of the water. We still got the EMTs coming in. My mom is working through all of them. So it has really been amazing to see how the community has come together around us. And we just can’t thank everybody.”
