The RNC is warning the public about drivers posing as ride-share services in northeast Avalon.
The warning comes after a local pub owner raised the alert last month. Ride-shares are booked online, but Niall Hickey warned that some people were offering so-called ride-share services face-to-face, usually around closing time.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says they’ve received a number of similar reports since that time.
“A couple of weeks ago we did get some information that this might be ongoing,” says Cadigan, in the meantime, they’ve received a number of reports of vehicle operators posing as ride-share operations without any credentials and not using the associated app.
Cadigan says that is a serious concern.
He says if someone is offering the service, but they are not licenced as a transportation provider, or accredited with a ride-share service, then “they are providing ride-share or transportation illegally.”
