Now that a decent amount of snow is blanketing the ground in many areas of the province, RCMP are offering a few basic safety tips for those venturing out on their snow machines.
RCMP advise snowmobilers to take extra time to prepare their machine before heading out, including packing extra food and water as well as fire-making equipment in case they run into trouble.
Mounties say riders should also wear proper clothing and equipment, including a helmet, which is mandatory, and goggles.
Anyone heading out on a snowmobile is encouraged to bring communications devices like satellite phones, cell phones and tracking devices with them.
They’re also reminding to never to drink and drive.
