Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, speaking with reporters following meetings with NATO and EU leaders, says Canada does not want to be in a trade war with the U.S., but if tariffs are put in place, Canada will not let them go unanswered.
“Canada will respond in a calibrated, but extremely strong way, regardless of what the U.S. moves forwarded with. We don’t want to be in a trade dispute,” Trudeau told reporters.
Trudeau says the conversation around Canada becoming a “51st state” is a non-starter and will “never happen,” but Canada needs to take the threats seriously.
