Officials say it is too early to speculate what may have caused a Delta Air Lines plane to flip upside down after landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport yesterday afternoon.
There were no fatalities after the aircraft, originating from Minneapolis, flipped over on its roof after touching down shortly after 2 p.m. local time.
Eighteen people were taken to hospital with injuries. Three passengers, including a child, sustained critical injuries.
An investigation is now underway by the Transportation Safety Board.
Speaking with media last night, Airport Authority Fire Chief Todd Aitken said it was too early to speculate what may have caused the dramatic crash.
“This is an active investigation,” said Aitken. “It’s very early on and it’s really important that we do not speculate. What we can say is the runway was dry and there was no crosswind conditions.”
Operations at Canada’s busiest airport have resumed following a shut down last evening. Airport officials say there may be delays for several days in the aftermath of yesterday’s incident.
The airport remains open with flights arriving and departing.
Passengers flying out today are advised to check the status of their flight before coming to the airport.
