The Benevolent Irish Society is marking the end of an era this weekend as they hold their final St. Patrick’s Day celebration at their Irish hall on Harvey Road.
Society president Bob Gillard says that in the years following the COVID-19 pandemic, they saw a decline in their catering service and participation in society-sponsored activities.
After a review of their operations, they decided to sell their building and continue operations out of another venue.
They note that the society, which is 219 years old, is no stranger to having to change the way it functions, having to adapt many times over the years to meet its objectives.
Their St. Patrick’s Day celebration is taking place this Saturday on Harvey Road.
